- Mic Dropped
It’s been a slow news week in web3, but a total rocket ship for the Unblocked community.
We launched the Billboard ChartStars Pepsi Mic Drop on Sunday and completed a historic drop to thousands of fans.
Inside scoop: We swung for the fences doing our first major drop with two storied brands during a major awards show on primetime TV. It was a showcase of a fundamental part of our mission - onboarding new audiences to web3. Many have been asking what’s next now. Well, tune in to our Twitter Spaces Town Hall on Tuesday to hear more. We’ll announce it on Twitter and Discord shortly.
Stat of the week
Number of transactions we sent to Flow blockchain during our drop on Sunday. To my knowledge, this is the most ever for a single-day drop.
Story of the Week
SolanaPay showed a new feature with point-of-sale discounts based on NFT holdings.
So what? This could be a glimpse at the future of the intersection of NFTs and loyalty rewards. SolanaPay is a payment technology using blockchain. It enables users to make retail payments with cryptocurrencies, and now it can check for NFT holdings to offer rewards and discounts. Imagine extending this to popular NFTs, like say owning a legendary LeBron TopShot offers discounts on his jersey purchases in the stadium. The possibilities are exciting.
Web3 Topic: Live mint
An on-demand creation of NFTs as they are claimed.
Breakdown: Minting is like manufacturing. You can create the items on-demand or ahead of time, each with trade-offs. With live minting, you won’t pay to create any extra supply, however it will add time to create and deliver the item. It also adds a risk of constraints if the blockchain is congested. Pre-mint is ahead-of-time minting which makes logistics easier for the drop event, however you may over-produce resulting in unpurchased inventory and added costs, or you also may leave extra demand on the table if you sell out.
That’s all, have a good week!
